With your support, we raised close to $300,000 in support of Walden foster and emancipated youth who participate in the Independent Futures Program. We are so appreciative of your generosity and dedication to our foster youth and look forward to seeing you again for the 11th Annual Wine D'Vine in 2014!
Walden Family Services held its 10th Annual Wine D'Vine fundraising event on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 and raised nearly $300,000 to further our mission of providing care and support to foster youth and families.
This year's event, with a theme of 'A Diamond in the Rough,' was held at The Grand Del Mar, where over 350 guests enjoyed an array of wine and culinary delights from Napa Valley's top wineries and San Diego's most popular restaurants. Country music star Jimmy Wayne provided entertainment as well as an inspirational speech. A former foster youth and homeless teen, Wayne met with Walden's foster youth before the event to offer his advice and support. During the event he shared his personal life story and stressed the importance and need of organizations like Walden Family Services.
Celebrity guests included former NY Yankee David Justice, and his wife, Rebecca, who will be featured in an upcoming segment of the ABC TV show Celebrity Wife Swap, donated a beautiful piece of her jewelry collection to the door prize raffle.
The Event Chairs were Dawn Grossman and Michelle Ozanne. Honorary Chairs were Mary Alice and Ron Brady, and VIP Reception Chairs were Julie and Dale Yahnke. The Aficionado Sponsor was Trust Employee Administration & Management; the VIP Reception Sponsor was Mundoval Fund.
Speakers throughout the night provided guests with an overview of Walden's programs, including those that focus on the needs of children with developmental disabilities and special health care needs. Walden's scope of service also included preparing youth to successfully transition from foster care to adulthood and support to parent to help end the cycle of child abuse. Virtually all children in foster care have suffered abused or neglect.
"We are so pleased by the community support we received for this year's Wine D'Vine," said Teresa Stivers, Executive Director of Walden. "The generosity expressed by all those who attended, as well as that of our sponsors and donors, will go a long way in helping us continue to be an advocate for San Diego's foster youth."
